Glad Kennedy recognizes the real history of this country. So sad that so many act as if denial of the history makes it go away. The liberation from enslavement was monumental for so many people of color and those who supported them. Texas intentionally withheld that information to those enslaved in that State for 2 yrs until the union cavelry showed up and made the public announcement that all those enslaved were now free.

It is quite horrifying that so many white people cannot enjoy the end of one of the most horrific practices against human beings. Celebrating freedom for all people is, or should be neither a left or right political issue but something to be universally shared and supported as a core democratic value.

Its a shame that RFK Jr supports the genocide of Palestinians and not their emancipation.

Juneteenth!!????

Not on my schedule. It shows me more and more that although RFKjr is an independent, by choice so he can move forward, he is still a liberal and sometimes slips too far to the left for my comfort.

Here is my post on the subject from a couple days ago https://heininger.substack.com/p/juneteenth-thoughts

with Thoughts about typical USA whitewashing, and the history of the event that details the limitations of the emancipation proclamation... More fraud than anything else, As it did not immediately go into effect and it did not affect any states that were slave states not actively fighting the union, as well as some enclaves in slave states controlled by the union.

Juneteenth means to me I have to Google it once a year to remind me what it is again. I don’t like the name, I don’t like that it singles out Texas and for gosh sakes don’t bring “Black Lives Matter” into it. Our problem today is with the destruction of the FAMILY we cannot teach our children what it was like to be brought up free of prejudice. I was. And there was a time when many people were. I’ll celebrate when the country is colourblind and we can all love and play and sincerely care for one another.

Maybe another holiday for Lincoln & skip Juneteenth?

Juneteenth is such a silly name for a holiday and if we’re celebrating the Emancipation of slaves-let’s honour President Lincoln.

The celebration isn’t about the guy who had the moral courage to speak truth to power.

The day of remembrance and celebration is about the history and ancestors of living peoples today who were criminally held longer than some others were. Can you imagine being held against your will? How would you feel?

We dont need to have a say in what the day is called.

Thirteenth Amendment to the US constitution, 18 Dec 1865 abolishes slavery in Delaware and Kentucky, well after Juneteenth. Texas was not the "Last Bastion". Got this from Wikerpedia.

Whatever. It’s “Juneteenth” - they should acknowledge every state that had slaves. Not just Texas which was probably the last to get them, and had them for the least amount of time.

Do you think it will be before the middle eastern Jewish country that is heavily funded by Christian Zionists in the US ends its apartheid and now, separately, its genocide?
