We don’t know why Dennis Kucinich left, but with Israel using white phosphorus bombs and stating they will not respect the Geneva conventions, unconditional support for Israel becomes a problem for RFK. He educates so well on everything else, that he can surely condemn the Netanyahu government’s response and yet still express a support for Israel.....but unconditional support when their response is not in anyway proportional is not really feasible for a peace candidate.

A peace candidate is more the dream than the reality. Put your unicorns back in their stable and face what Israel is up against.

“Put your unicorns back in the stable?” Amazing how people are incapable of disagreeing politely without becoming insulting. No wonder we can’t discuss anything constructively. Funny, Karina, for someone who is inspired by RFK’s campaign, it seems you haven’t understood his most essential message which is to engage in respectful dialogue and built bridges together even when we don’t agree on every subject.

There is nothing insulting about that. Absolutely nothing. Nobody has ever been hauled before the courts for telling somebody to be realistic.

Very disappointed to see Kucinich go. Is this because of their difference of opinion on Israel? RFKs recent comments were very pro-war sounding for an anti-war candidate. The way this conflict is dividing us is devastating. Also, less than thrilled to see a Bill Gates retweet on his new campaign managers page. RFK still has my vote- just very unsettling.

Hi Steen - I was wondering the very same thing about Palestine - Dennis must have left because of that. Robert will never win if he can't keep someone with integrity like Dennis aboard for more that a few months. Not sure what to say about Demon Gates - so I'll reserve my opinion on that. Thanks for update.

Super disappointing. His new campaign manager, daughter-in-law Amaryllis Fox is also former CIA. I’ve been all in on RFK from the beginning and this making me feel sick.

Expand full comment

You're not alone. It speaks to Dennis' integrity that he's stepped down. I was so excited when RFK Jr announced his candidacy in the beginning and a major part of that was because of how he spoke about peace and the potential for America to ensure it given the right leadership. Now I feel betrayed, honestly. Definitely stopping my monthly donation for now, paltry and symbolic as it has been.

I don't want to hear that he supports Israel, I don't want to hear he supports Palestine. I want to hear that above all what he supports is an end to violence and death on all sides, and what his considered and pragmatic thoughts are on how to achieve peace, human rights, equality, freedom and stability for everyone in the region. The entire promise of RFK Jr was that he supposed to transcend all this bullshit and wind down the American empire. He sounds no different from the Uniparty on this.

At the very very least even if you feel you must side with Israel, at least do it in a way that demands -- we're giving you one last chance, either you find some way to live peacefully and equally with the Palestinians, or we're cutting off the money tap for good and good luck to you.

The problem with that formation is that you can’t live peacefully with a group that has as its purpose your destruction— Hamas. In that case you are by definition in defensive mode. The issue is that “The Palestinians” are intertwined with these militants, who are not welcome anywhere else in the Middle East. Having said that, I think it is quite possible that we are watching some level of deadly political theater.

Israel "war on terror" progression into "conflict" will be irreversible by the time Bobby gets in if it is still going on. That is over 12 months away. If other countries in the Middle East get involved, then it has to be won before it ends and Kennedy will come in long after chances of a negotiated peace are possible.

That would be my guess about why Kucinich left the campaign. It feels like RFK is taking a rather extreme position on the Hamas attack on Israel to push back on the charges of antisemitism earlier this year. I also wish he would take a more nuanced position. However, if his goal is to hold onto former Trump supporters, this might be a good tactic. On the other hand, it could ostracize his supporters from the remnant of the anti-war Democrats who no longer feel at home in the new Democratic Party.

He is correct that Israel goes to great lengths to avoid collateral damage and does not directly target areas that are clearly being used for purely civilian purposes. However, that does not change the fact that 150,000 Palestinian civilians have been injured by military excursions into either Gaza or the West Bank by the Israeli defense forces in the past 15 years.

It's a reflection of who controls the discourse. Bobby feels he needs militant Zionism as a shield from all the other positions he is taking that will be unpopular with them: Vax, Ukraine, etc.

Bobby is being very smart here. But we all knew that he was whip-smart.

no-win situation... IF he's actually beholden to Israeli interests(?) that he betrays his position as peace advocate... that's not independent, is it?

I think he has. I wonder if this was coordinated somehow - to go independent and lose Dennis and be so outspoken about wiping Gaza off the map...there's that famous meme that in politics nothing is coincidental - here is a great video that covers RFK at 33 minutes - but the entire vid is great - he has some sound issue but it only goes on for three minutes - and there is a long sad video at the beginning - his analysis starts at about 6 minutes - its worth listening - very hopeful really - in my opinion. - https://rumble.com/v3pnyf5-israel-at-a-crossroads-retreat-or-regional-war.html

Is the Israel-Hamas conflict an existential crisis for the Kennedy campaign? Quite possibly. It will certainly be costly. It will certainly divide the folks who prioritize international over domestic policy concerns, not that they can be neatly compartmentalized, esp where our huge deficit is concerned.

STILL if the campaign implodes that leaves (for now) Biden v Trump — which disenfranchises a huge swath of voters. Some choice that is.

My political “top card” is Free Speech — without it we are left with a zombie democracy. I will cast a ballot in November for whoever protects that regardless of their “downsides.”

Let's hope his new campaign manager is still not acting on behalf of the CIA.

We know what they did to JFK.

It's not a "shake up" as the NY TIMES woud predictably describe it in disparaging terms. It's a change.

I was thrilled when the campaign started off with a bang in Boston with Dennis Kucinich's joyous declaration, "I'M DENNIS KUCINICH, AND I'M A KENNEDY DEMOCRAT!!!" before introducing " THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, ROBERT F KENNEDY JR!!!". It was electrifying! And those words will go down in history.

Since that time, we know what RFK Jr has been up against with the DNC , so although not an easy decision for him to leave the Democratic Party of his uncles Teddy & JFK and his father Bobby Kennedy; his grandparents & great grandparents for the good of the country, he knew what he had to do and he declared his independence!!

Now that RFK Jr is running as an Independent, it makes perfect sense that Mr. Kucinich, a lifelong Democrat, had to step down. On the face of it, had Mr. Kennedy continued his run as a Democrat, I doubt Kucinich would have left. Then again, that is not for me to know. I trust that all is well.

Dennis Kucinich is to be commended. He did a great job during the initial phase as RFK Jr's Campaign Manager and played it beautifully. And now that torch has been passed to the wonderful Amaryllis Kennedy who is already doing a spectacular job and we have complete confidence in her abilities.

GOOO TEAM!!! 👏👏🙌🏾🌟🇺🇸🌟💖

I think your explanation is unlikely. Kucinich has a long history of being ridiculed by other Democrats. Historically, he has been quite sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians. I'm sure he's known Kennedy was going to go independent for weeks, while the sudden invasion of Israel is the most proximal event to his departure.

I'm Jewish and very concerned about the Hamas attacks. I think that a large segment of Middle Eastern Arabs are barbarians but, I don't see how a shock and awe campaign against Gaza residents is going to make any of this better. And the suspicious fact remains that there is no good explanation of how Hamas launched such a successful attack. Personally, I think Netanyahu may have been willing to sacrifice a few thousand Israelis to justify a few things that he's always wanted to do, including making both Gaza and Iran into parking lots.

Mr. Kennedy could certainly do some good as an agency head, such as Health and Human Services, but he has failed in three major areas where presidential leadership is drastically needed: 1) In his zeal to escape the "anti-vax" label, he appears to be ignoring the overwhelming crisis with the dangers of the Covid vaccine and the number of people it has made ill; he also has failed to speak to the evidence that Covid was bio-engineered and that another pandemic is being prepared; 2) he has failed to call for peace in the Middle East and instead is following the Biden line of blaming Hamas for everything and ignoring the assaults by Israel on the Palestinians going back decades; 3) he has failed to articulate a meaningful economic program that addresses the massive and growing federal deficit and the crimes of an unregulated financial system headed by the Federal Reserve which, instead, of solving the present crisis, is raising interest rates in a way that penalizes workers and consumers. Kennedy's call for 3% mortgage rates and utilization of Bitcoin don't even come close to facing the problems. If you want to see a strong statement on peace in the Middle East, take a look at Cornel West's statement that came out today. This is something Kennedy should have said. I predict that though Kennedy's campaign hit a high note with his declaration of "independence," since he has nothing to say on the biggest issues, he is going nowhere. I don't blame Dennis Kucinich for bailing out.

I only agree with number 2 as being his major failing so far. Remove his stubborn full throated support for the state of Israel and he remains, by far, the most desirable potential POTUS in my eyes.

I appreciate that the Beacon links to negative coverage. So about that Paul Offit article — let’s say for argument’s sake that everything he says about RFK twisting that conversation is true. Then all you have is “the pot calling the kettle black.”

Offit is STILL a mouthpiece for children & pregnant women getting Covid shots. He claims not to be a pharma shill but he sure talks like one.

Not to mention that he revealed himself to be a cowardly hypocrite on myocarditis. Instead of leading the charge he meekly told the Atlantic he “wouldn’t advise his own son to get the shot.” Spare me this.

How do you describe a country (US) that totally supports, militarily and financially, TWO countries (U + I) with Nazi-dominated governments?

A TWO-state solution ( which was sabotaged for decades by both apartheid Bibi/US and Hamas ) – NOW

Why I no longer stand with Israel, and never will again – Scott Ritter, Oct. 13

Hamas was created and financed for years by “our beloved” apartheid Bibi (of “Kill Rabin” fame), who believed that Arafat’s secular PLO was a more serious enemy than religious extremists.

Hamas was also rejecting a two-state solution -- just like Bibi and his extremists who, together with US, sabotaged a two-state solution for decades.

Dennis Kucinich has left the Kennedy campaign and so have I. Mr. Kennedy's failure to call for peace in the Middle East is a betrayal of all we had hoped for. His stance is no different from Biden's or Trump's. Where is the independence here, especially since the UN call for a Palestinian state has been on the books since 1948?

Sorry you’re giving up on him. He’s still an environmental lawyer and we need someone in this country in office that truly cares about the environment! He also cares about cleaning up the wasteful government agencies and taking on big pharma and other corporations. If you know of any other candidate willing to do this and can actually make it happen, pls. let me know. Thx.

I don't disagree that he should've taken a more nuanced position that was more peace oriented. However, he is still infinitely better than Trump and Biden on every other issue. So, all this means is that there is no difference between the three top candidates with regard to Israel, but there remains quite a bit of difference otherwise.

Expand full comment

Do you really think that Biden’s support was sincere? I doubt it. He and Obama just have to hypocritically play politics because Israel is nothing if not “a third rail” issue.

I guess the other thing I’d ask is — so if this has “been in the books since 1948” exactly why hasn’t it been resolved? Which party has caused negotiations to break down? And why is Bobby to blame for something stretching back before he was even born?

But if Dr West is more to your liking you are certainly entitled to vote for him with the knowledge that you might be mainly helping elect DJT who probably has the most deeply pro-Israel position.

I think one of the main "Important quotes" from the article should be that she is a former C.I.A. agent. D'oh! :(

Looks like another casualty of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is Dennis J. Kucinich - my guess as to why Kucinich just left RFK Jr.'s campaign, considering RFK Jr.'s statements about where he stands.

This is starting to look like a disaster.

Amaryllis Kennedy's bio is just all-too weird for me. She glows in the dark, that's for sure. But ... I am well-used to "Kennedy-land" being different than the land most of us live in. So I will hang with this for a while. I will say that if he is going to be taken seriously as an American leader, and world peace-maker, he's going to need a lot of foreign policy briefings. She can provide that. (Hopefully one of the briefings will say, "If you want world peace, dont give Israel a blank-check like you're doing".)

One strange little trivia item. All of Amaryllis' bios say she is the daughter of Lalage Damerell a retired British actress. But I can't find any IMDB or IBDB references to her.
