Thank you for this. I was at the event too... blessed to be standing right next to Nicole's mother :)

And I really wanted Tulsi to be his running mate when I waited with baited breath for Kennedy's announcement. I didn't know who Shanahan was... but once I came to understand who she is, I am DELIGHTED by Kennedy's choice.

What you failed to share in this post is that she is a high tech patent attorney. She is working with leaders in the AI industry - an industry she understands. She also understands data, and the connection between our natural environment and public health.

She intends to run all the medical data held by the CDC and NIH through AI systems which will give us much more solid information - what is causing our children to be suffering the highest rates of diabetes, obesity, autism, cancer and heart disease than ever? We do safety studies on individual pharmaceuticals, but not on the cocktail most people take... what can we learn about that?

She has also come to understand that the media is lying to us. That's huge - especially for a democrat (I should know... I was a lifelong democrat too until covid 2020)

She's beginning to understand how horrible the corporate mergers with regulations agencies is for our country - that this is the rot that is decaying the work of our founding fathers. She knows that none of the politicians are addressing this sufficiently because they've been sponsored by the same mega-corporations - Big Ag, Big Pharma, the military industrial and prison complex - that ensures we continue to poison our air, food and water and stay in endless wars - because sickness, disease and war are profitable.

She's authentic, passionate, idealistic, intelligent, powerful and very well-connected.

I'm all in for Kennedy/Shanahan 2024.

I’m 82. Attended the speech in Oakland with my two 30 something skateboarding friends. My reaction: she’s a real find. My young friends were won over also. I remarked that I thought she was pretty, and Scott said “How about ‘Make America Beautiful Again.’”

Nicole is a brilliant woman who has experienced both sides of the coin, from rags to riches (and displays empathy from the experience). She is a lawyer who has broken ground in an area of law that didn't exist before. She created and lead a successful tech company. She has traveled internationally (backpack style), she has mothered an autistic spectrum child (which changes your life in ways you can't imagine), and has done the research to become extremely well versed in our chronic health dilemma. She is presently paying for research in "mitochondrial health" which could heal others way beyond her daughters population. Is it because she is a divorced, wealthy, woman that so many have judged her before they research her? I feel her presence is divinely guided. She's the perfect partner for RFK in this "turning of an age".

Expand full comment

Shanahan is an unconventional choice, so it's to be expected that folks have to warm up to the idea--if they ever do. Blaming the public is your prerogative, but it's not a winning strategy. If she fails to find her feet, it will be RFK's fault, in large part, for making the pick. It's an election for goodness sake.

Expand full comment

I’m part of the public and blame no one. I question. And by the likes on my comment, I see I’m not alone in people who may agree to some degree. To “blame” anyone, is a sign of “powerlessness”, and RFK is in no way powerless.

Expand full comment

"RFK is in no way powerless."

Exactly my point.

We've been programmed by the Uniparty for decades to not think outside their well guarded and elite funded box.

Like the lady said, there is no "experienced DC insider" that has bucked the system and their party to the extent needed to wrest the power back to the people.

Expand full comment

You're not wrong about the programming. The question is whether there's time and ability to overcome the programming. I hope there is. Right now, we need to step back from the precipice. You don't need a lot to accomplish that, and the question is whether people want more than that.

Expand full comment

I. Martin, I think you misread YvonneM's comment. She blamed no one...only saying that "many have judged her before they researched her." Which unfortunately reflects the lack of curiosity and critical thinking prevalent today. "It's an election for goodness sake" YES, and we have learned that those we elected have produced the results we live with.

Expand full comment

Yes, really terrible results we live with. It’s obvious that Democrats own Republicans for whatever reasons, Republicans have no backbone especially when it comes to spending. Could it be that both parties are owned by the same corporate interests? Yes.

They are owned by the same interests. :(

I was concerned about a having "technologist" come to power because many of them can only see one solution (and look where much of our big tech has landed us). However, I am also a Mama Bear, and Ms. Shanahan won me over, too. I was glad to hear her speak about issues that most politicians have avoided bringing to light. And anyone who cares about wresting power from Big Ag and helping regenerative farmers deserves my attention... we are what we eat, and right now we are poisoned.

I'm a boomer and am tired of having to listen to people even older than me say what the country needs (except for Bernie, of course). It's time to get the best and brightest of our younger generations in place to find solutions for the problems their predecessors have created.

Hooray for those who agree with me on Nicole Shanahan, a superb choice!

But I'm mystified by the cynics.

Not fortunate enough to have had a stable childhood, much less a privileged one, she "pulled herself up by her bootstraps" which is often touted by Americans who've never had to struggle. The issues on which Nicole has focused indicate that she's a very caring person, a species seemingly in short supply in today's America. Perhaps the naysayers could direct their ire at the MSM that is blacking out Kennedy, thus denying We the People our Bill of Rights promise of a Free Press.

I loved Frances Scott's charming and candid explanation of how Nicole won her over.

I saw a complete story of why Kennedy picked Shanahan for 2024 in the series of speeches.

Imagine that this fall, Native Americans will come to vote by riding their horses. Mothers and fathers will come to vote along with their children suffering from chronic diseases and in need. Young voters will come in a group smiling big. The pair of powerful leaders is truly listening to the voices that have never been heard —paradigm change in peace with hope and smiles. When America changes, the world also changes. Let the dream be realized.

Please see TETRAGRAMMATON podcast with N Shanahan, for an amazing interview, if you're looking for hope. But beware, you may learn something in the process. RFK SHANAHAN perfect together.

I was initially disappointed - but her speech, and her interview on Rick Rubin's podcast were both outstanding. The interview must have been done before she was chosen as there is no mention of it. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tetragrammaton-with-rick-rubin/id1671669052?i=1000650583296

Frances, I shared your same concerns taking in the entire acceptance speech. Whether we both feel her sincerity and think it's time for a person of this integrity and sincerity there is still a very important component that I feel is needed in leadership of this magnitude...and that is wisdom. You can't implant that into a 38 year old. It only comes in living life. We'll see if she can convince uncommitted Independents

If you listen to her interview on TETRAGAMMATON you will see she has lived life more than most individuals. She has also done more by actually learning and healing from her experiences. "How do you make ethics, computational"? N.Shanahan knows.

I have learned more about the way the world works in the past five years (age 65-70) than I did in the previous 64. But that's just me (and the wild ride we have been on). It is early days; but this VP selection does not strike me as a serious one.

Jennifer, I am in your age cohort and have 7 children (6 survivors) including a 35 year old in the political sphere. I think this is a serious selection and that her story thus far, all things considered, deserves support.

It can be an important and relevant attribute, but it can also cut both ways. However, your comparison is poor. The disadvantage, in this case, is more like Hillary Clinton's. She not a natural politician. Of course, neither is RFK Jr., so we're in uncharted territory.

Sorry. Doesn't compute. She may pry a few voters from Biden, but that's about all.

Expand full comment

Funny you should say "doesn't compute" about her candidacy. She said she's going to assemble the best technologists and scientists in the world and use the latest in AI and computation to solve chronic diseases within weeks, not decades, working from health record databases in the US and other countries. An extraordinary project, in my book the equivalent of JFK's "We choose to go to the Moon" speech in 1962.

She might have the chops to do it. She's an experienced "technologist," as Wikipedia calls her, and having been married to a co-founder of Google for five years she might have learned a thing or two about computation.

I thought she came across as the real thing in her speech. New agey but genuine.

Nicole is a deep, critical thinker who knows how to 'connect the dots.' A courageous VP pick for Kennedy. It's what effective leaders do - surround themselves with intelligent individuals and give them responsibilities towards the policy goals. Not only does Nicole "compute," but she ads important value to RFKjr's team and to the health & wellness of America!

I am not convinced either. Where does she now stand on the catastrophic law enforcement record of George Gascon?

I am no longer in California and I cannot evaluate her comment, as reported in Newsweek, to the effect that she supported Gascon's policies in SF but that he has "carried her research too far" in LA.
