Everyone is blaming "Boeing" but this company is really McDonnell-Douglas which was a benchwarmer in the commercial airliner space. McD management were all beancounters and they ended up running Boeing and pushing the real company process out. We can look at the 80's where Reagan allowed stock "buybacks" which is basically insider trading and stock manipulation. Thats the SEC's job to stop this crap. The whole merger and using revenue to manipulate stock prices for management and shareholders is the real culprit. FAA is just another sad part of the story
Thanks for the brief history, but the fact still remains. Boeing/McDD appear to have been negligent and the FAA is just another captured agency. On the side, the media is the gov't propaganda wing.
I like what Vivek Ramaswamy is saying about the majority of federal government agencies. They fulfilled their purpose a long time ago and need to be shut down for good - now. And look at what Javier Milei is doing in Argentina, he slashed most government agencies. Government is only supposed to make sure the lights stay on, not run every single aspect of our lives. A drastic reduction is long overdue.
Oh, so capitalism will run the country just fine when gov't stops even pretending to regulate private industries (quick, burn all the history books!). Glad there's a silver lining to being too poor to fly the friendly skies....
Great and effective article, covering a most sensitive and consequential matter.
For those who are interested, The National Whistleblower Center, while not taking side on the causes of Barnett's death, has provided this platform to call on Congress for a full, independent investigation into Boeing's malpractices and possible dereliction of duty: https://www.whistleblowers.org/news/tragic-whistleblower-death-requires-further-action/
If we really want passenger airlines to be safe, it looks like we need to socialize the industry, & then force Congress & their families to fly the friendly skies on them....
Good article, Adam. The death of this whistleblower gives me the same feeling I had when an upbeat Epstein allegedly committed suicide. Stick with this story.

Boeing is the poster child of America's decline.

One very glaring example of why we need Kennedy to clean up the mess in our regulatory agencies.
Thank you for this piece, Adam, You are a rarity. An actual journalist, speaking truth to power.
