This is awesome! Love the pictures, too, which give such a good idea of all the hard work that has gone into getting all of those signatures. Go Kennedy/Shanahan24!

I don't -- at all -- mean to rain on anyone's parade, certainly not RFK's or any supporter, but the Texas Secretary of State (SoS) has yet to review the signatures and has 30-days to do so. They will do a random sample of 1000 and if the probability of reaching the required numbers is 95% or more, they will certify RFK for the ballot. SO...hold on to your horses, y'all, before the certification by our SoS is made. Though campaign away for your beloved candidate, by all means.

Well, there’s always one or 2 that do on every substack posted! Why should this one be any different?! You honestly believe out of the 245,572 signatures collected there won’t be 113,151 good ones?! He WILL get on the ballot!! Cheers. #kennedy24

Hey Cindy, I think it's highly likely he will get on the ballot. All I'm saying is to understand and respect the process, that's all.

Article is not true. You don't gain access to the ballot simply by turning in petitions. The state has to look at the petitions and will rule some out. If enough valid signatures remain, then Kennedy will be on the ballot.

That's why they collected more than double the amount of signatures needed. There will be enough.

I thought they already verified them???

The campaign may have verified signatures, but the state has to verify them officially. I'm guessing that the campaign verified a sample of signatures collected early in the signature-gathering effort, to find out what percentage of the signatures were "good" so they could calculate a target number that would be sure to give them enough good signatures to qualify for the ballot. (My husband used to run political campaigns. . .)

But does this only get Kennedy on the ballot for this one election? Or did this establish a new political party? Forming the "we the people" party by getting 75,000 voter registrations changed was the strategy in California until Kennedy was nominated by the American Independent Party which automatically put him on the ballot in that state.

In Texas, RFK didn't run on a party line, just independent, so no new party will be established so yes, he will only be on the ballot just this year in Texas.

Expand full comment

I wonder why not, since the small independent parties in Texas got ballot access by just one time gathering signatures. Why couldn't "we the people" party be like these small parties? Might make it easier if Kennedy ran in 2028.

Agreed, but it's not easy to establish a party in Texas. It's a long story to write about it here. Ultimately, the RFK campaign decided to get signatures for him to get on the ballot as an individual candidate. That can't be changed now.
