On a spacious terrace in midtown Manhattan, at the home of David and Leila Centner, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed some 120 passionate supporters, elaborating on policy positions about which he is most proud.
The event, held over lunch on August 28, is one of numerous intimate fundraisers Kennedy has been holding across the country. It raised over $200,000, surpassing expectations.
The focus of the gathering was to address a major economic issue young individuals face today—their ability to buy a home. Kennedy wants to make sure middle-class Americans can afford to enter the housing market.
After greeting and taking photos with every attendee, Kennedy addressed the crowd. He singled out BlackRock, State Street and Vanguard, the largest shareholders in nearly every major public company, for preventing everyday Americans who want to buy a home from doing so.
These mega companies, and others like them, he said, use “ambiguous and vague intermediates like some LLCs” to swoop in and snatch up deals before the average American aspiring to home-ownership can close their own deals.
In order to make the housing market once more accessible to the average American, Kennedy plans to direct economic assistance towards those who need it most, including young and aspiring homeowners. The candidate said he believes corporations that monopolize the housing market are “enemies of American democracy.”
During his remarks, Kennedy quoted Klaus Schwab, the chairperson of the World Economic Forum: ‘You will own nothing and you will be happy.’
“They’re working hard on the first part,” quipped Kennedy. In other words, the current system is failing Americans.
As fundraising for Kennedy succeeds, the Kennedy campaign expands across the country. Kennedy2024 is opening new field offices in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa, Michigan and Nevada.
