During a fundraiser on September 19, at a private residence in the swank Brentwood section of Los Angeles, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician Eric Clapton put on what Team Kennedy billed as a “once-in-a-lifetime” performance.
The event raised $2.2 million for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s’ presidential campaign and a super PAC supporting the candidate. One million went to the Kennedy campaign; the remainder went to the PAC.
“I am deeply grateful to Eric Clapton for bringing his musical artistry and rebellious spirit to my gathering in Los Angeles last night,” Kennedy said in a statement. “I sometimes think that in our divided society, it is music rather than any kind of intellectual agreement that has the most potential to bring us together again.”
Tickets for the performance started at $3,300 and went as high as $6,600. The highest contribution included access to a private reception with Kennedy prior to the main event.
Clapton expressed his excitement about the concert fundraiser in a video almost a month ago. In the video, he said that he was eager to see everyone at the gig, which was in support of “truth, unity, peace and posterity.”
Clapton has been a longtime supporter of Kennedy and has echoed his concerns about vaccine mandates.
“Eric sings from the depths of the human condition,” added Kennedy in his post-event statement. “If he sees in me the possibility of bringing unity to our country, it is only possible because artists like him invoke a buried faith in the limitless power of human beings to overcome any obstacle.”
Those ticket prices are out of my reach. But I do have a Kennedy 2024 lawn sign proudly displayed, the only one in my 2 stop sign town, in oh-so-blue Vermont. Go Bobby!
Thank you Eric Clapton!!!
