We are seeking a Director of Media Advocacy to join The Honest Media team, our substack supporting an honest and critical critique of the mainstream media, with a focus on Big Tech Big Gov and Big Media corruption. This person will synthesize complex information into concise and compelling policy briefing notes and advocacy documents. Someone special with a proven experience of using media for advocacy purposes; the ability to coordinate and work with diverse groups of people based in multiple locations and the ability to manage complex workloads and stressful situations.
Job Description:Â
• Spokesperson for Honest Media.
• Writing reports and commentaries on the news cycle.
• Doing interviews and outreach.
• Scheduling and taking meetings with mainstream media executives.Â
• Developing strategies to reform corrupt media organizations
• Building advocacy campaigns to pressure corrupt media organizations to reform
• Networking and building coalitions to bring about reform
Requirements and Skills:Â
• Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.
• Background in mainstream media or other news / publishing fields / background in Law.
• Able to engage top brass in mainstream news boardrooms.
• Requires experience working with, presenting to and connecting with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders: media executives, broadcast journalist, pundits, business, nonprofit and philanthropic community; academic community; community stakeholders and impacted persons.
• Comfortable in all on-camera situations, interviews and boardroom meetings.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
• Outstanding written and verbal communications and relational skills; Strong ability to connect with a diverse range of partners, stakeholders and groups.
• Ability to work individually and as a member of a team; flexibility.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Tenacious, persistent, energetic, self-starting; sense of humor helps.
• Ability to use data in framing and shaping policy and advocacy efforts.
• Work with the leadership team to define and develop the organization’s advocacy agenda based on current organizational priorities and external policy landscape.
• Develop and implement strategies for advancing policy and advocacy goals.
• Identify and monitor pending local and state legislative initiatives, external agency policies and practices and other policy and advocacy issues falling under the scope of interest for AV24.
• Identify key stakeholder individuals, organizations, businesses and communities to determine potential partners for our advocacy work.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills
• Flexible, team player who is service-oriented with high-level interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including phone and editing skills
• Sound judgment, integrity, and respect for confidentiality are absolute requirements
• Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with all levels of co-workers, including assistants, staff, and senior management
